Police administration Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Police administration - Essay Example This role involves issues such as rules, employees, jobs, tasks, supervision, budget, efficiency, and workload. This role ensures that the police executive see to it that the functions of the police organizations are executed correctly. This is because the police executive is at the tiller of the police system and therefore must ensure that processes, inputs, outputs and feedback are dealt with properly in order to allow the police system accomplish its goals. This role is important to the police department because it sees the management of police inputs, processes and outcome. Without this role, the goals of the police administration may just be a mirage (Cordner & Scarborough, 2007). The second basic police executive role deals with external matters of the police organization. Because police organizations are open systems, the organization interacts with other organizations in its environs. These environments of the police organization are associated with a number of variable deman ds such as unusual and routine requests for services of the police organization; directives originating from the judiciary; inquiries of police management of specific crimes and incidents; and the minimum requirements for police training mandated by the state. Many of these demands are particularly received by the police executive personally as well as the requests from the environment. The police executive due to this is responsible for the response of the entire police organization. In general, the police executive is held accountable for managing the interaction between the environment and the police organization in order to enable the police organization system achieves its goals. Again this is important in police departments as failure to manage effectively the police organization environment, the attainment of the organizational goals will be impeded (Cordner & Scarborough, 2007). Both the internal and external basic roles of the police executive are important to the departmen t and the community. It is essential obviously that the chief of police pays attention to the internal police operations of the police organization. The internal basic role therefore fits the concept of responsibilities and duties of management. The external basic role of the police executive may be less obvious compared to the internal basic role. Because the police organization is an open system and is therefore impacted by its environs, the criminal law, job applicants, requests for police assistance, and money to pay to employees of the police organization all come from the environment to the police department. The central government system, the community, the system of criminal justice, and the media also make primary aspects of the environment of the police organization. In order to assure success of the police department, police executives must give attention and focus on relations with all the mentioned environmental elements because they affect the police organization signi ficantly and directly (Reiss, 2004). Failure to perform any of the roles sufficiently can possibly ruin the entire police department and the police chief. Issues of internal role may lead to poor morale, low productivity, negligent work, substandard equipment and personnel, and abuses such as corruption and brutality. The system of police department can easily fail to achieve its goals as a result of poor internal management. On the other hand, not executing external basic role of the police executive will result into declined goal achievement. For example, if the police executive estrange city hall, it is most probable that requests of the budgets of the police will be put at risk and funding will be less sufficient for optimal performance of the police

Friction and the Variables of Friction Using a Wooden Block Essay Example for Free

Friction and the Variables of Friction Using a Wooden Block Essay I am going to perform an experiment on friction and the variables of friction using a wooden block, a piece of string and a Newton meter. I will test 3 variables: weight, surface area and surface texture. Each test will be repeated 5 times to get a fair range of results. Friction is the force of two objects rubbing together and slowing and/or stopping each other. The amount of friction produced depends on the appearance of its surface for example: The surface of the sandpaper has deep slopes and the surface of the paper has to move up and down those slopes to proceed, causing friction. My first test will be done to measure the affect of weight on the amount of friction between the block and the table top. The block ill be placed on the table and the Newton meter tied to it. Then the Newton meter will be pulled until the block starts to move and as soon as it does the amount of Newtons required to cause that movement will be recorded. This will be done 5 times then averaged. To make sure it is a fair test I will: use the same Newton meter and the same wooden block to avoid introducing other variables; I will also use the same section of table using the same side of the block every time. I will be vigilant of how I pull the Newton meter, the moving force should be parallel to the supporting surface because pulling it up will lessen friction and pulling it down will increase friction. I predict that as the weight on the block increases so therefore does the down force, increasing the amount of friction because it becomes more difficult for the ridges to pass over each and so a block with less/smoother ridges would find its passage a lot easier. When the experiment was carried out, as I predicted, when the weight on the block increased so therefore did the Newtons required to move it from a fixed position. The test was done with 2 Newton meters over 2 days. Using the same Newton meter was impossible as it broke. My results were as follows: Weight of block = 2.0N Weight T1(N) T2(N) T3(N) T4(N) T5(N) Average(N) Block 1.2 0.8 1 1 1 1 Block + 1N 1.6 1.5 1.5 1.8 2 1.7 Block + 2N 1.8 1.8 2.5 2.4 2.5 2.2 Block + 3N 2.2 2 3 3.2 3.3 2.7 Block + 4N 2.6 2.6 3.8 3.5 3.5 3.2 Block + 5N 2.8 3.5 4 3.5 3.6 3.5 In the first experiment weight was tested and a set of results produced. In this second experiment the surface area in contact with the desk will be tested. To obtain my results I will use the following method, the block will be placed on two sheets of paper a measured distance apart with a Newton meter tied to it. The block will then be pulled and as it begins to move the amount of Newtons required to cause this will be recorded. Each test will be done 5 times then averaged. To make sure it is a fair test I will; as the same Newton meter ensuring non-introduction of new variables, use the same side of the block, use the same two pieces of paper and make sure the blocks movement is parallel to the supporting surface. I predict that as the surface area of the block exposed to the desk increases so will the amount of Newtons required to move it because there will be more sharper ridges to pass over therefore requiring more Newtons. My results were as follows: Exp mm2 T(n) T2(n) T3(n) T4(n) T5(n) Avg(N) 11.3 0.5 0.9 1.1 1.2 0.7 0.88 22.6 0.6 0.6 1.1 0.7 0.6 0.92.72 33.9 1.2 1.1 1.1 1.1 0.9 1.08 45.2 1.1 1.1 1.1 0.9 1.1 1.06 56.5 1.1 1 0.9 0.7 0.6 0.86 68.1 1.1 1.1 0.9 1.1 0.6 0.96 My prediction on 1 or 2 of the results was correct or partially correct but on the whole I fear my prediction was incorrect as it seems the surface area (exposed to the desk) does not greatly affect the amount of Newtons that is required to move it, any affect it does have is not continual and seemingly erratic. The friction experiment has now been done with 2 variables: weight and surface area. I have now come to the third and final, surface texture. To test the affect of surface texture on friction, I will, Place the block on the surface with a Newton meter tied to it, the meter will then be pulled and as soon as the block shows signs of movement I will record the amount of Newtons needed. Each test will be done 5 times then averaged. To make sure it is a fair test I will: unless it breaks use the same Newton meter, I will use the same block and the same side of the block every time, I will use the same substance/type of substance for instance making sure the sandpaper comes from the same sheet. I will also keep the movement of the block parallel to the supporting surface. Although smoothness is hard to measure I predict that the smoother a substance is to the touch, the less friction will be produced, because the smoother a substance is to the touch the less sharp or outstanding the ridges are, therefore the less resistance they cause. Key Substances: Silicon based carbon paper: Si Emery paper: Bs Sand paper: S Table top: TT Plastic Bag: Pb Substance T1(N) T2(N) T3(N) T4(N) T5(N) Average Si 3 2.5 2.5 2.5 2.5 2.6 Bs 2 1.5 1.5 1.6 1.6 1.64 S 2 2 1.75 2 2 1.95 TT 1 1 0.9 0.9 0.9 0.94 Pb 0.4 0.4 0.4 0.4 0.4 0.4 As I predicted the smoother a substance feels to be, the less it causes resistance, as shown in the results. I followed my method very strictly any variation caused by my hand is small to negligible, and would not greatly affect the results. I have come to the conclusion that for a substance to reach minimal resistance it can achieve this being light weight, smoothly textured and have minimal contacting surface area with the opposing surface. If a substance is required to have maximum resistance it would be the opposite. I feel the experiment was performed rather well but there is room for improvement, to have maybe got fairer more accurate results I could have maybe repeated the experiment once or twice on all of them, then I would have more data to analyse giving me a better chance at accuracy. In all the three experiments instead of using the human hand to pull the Newton meter use a machine which would be less prone to inconsistency and use a table top free of blemishes. In the second experiment the block could have been placed on previously constructed platforms each measured to have 4 sides the same and those sides to be the measurements used meaning the non need of paper and a lot more accurate readings.

Analysis of Edgar Allan Poes The Black Cat :: Poe The Black Cat Essays

Analysis of Edgar Allan Poe's The Black Cat      Edgar Allan Poe wrote that the single effect was the most important aspect of a short story, which everything must contribute to this effect. Poe’s gothic tale â€Å"The Black Cat† was written trying to achieve an effect of shocking insanity. In this first person narrative the narrator tells of his decline from sanity to madness, all because of an obsession with two (or possibly one) black cats. These ebony creatures finally drive him to take the life his wife, whose death he unsuccessfully tries to conceal.   This short story easily achieved the effect that Poe was looking for through the use of description of setting, symbolism, plot development, diverse word choice, and detailed character development. In most cases, the setting is usually indelible to a story, but â€Å"The Black Cat† relies little on this element. This tale could have occurred anywhere and can be placed in any era. This makes the setting the weakest element of â€Å"The Black Cat.†   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Next, symbolism is always an integral part of any Poe story. The most obvious of symbolic references in this story is the cat’s name, Pluto. This is the Roman god of the underworld. Pluto contributes to a strong sense of hell and may even symbolize the devil himself. Another immensely symbolic part of â€Å"The Black Cat† is the title itself, since onyx cats have long connoted bad luck and misfortune. The most amazing thing about the symbolism in this story or in any other of Poe’s is that there are probably many symbols that only Poe himself ever knew were in his writings.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Furthermore, Poe’s plot development added much of the effect of shocking insanity to â€Å"The Black Cat.† To dream up such an intricate plot of perverseness, alcoholism, murders, fire, revival, and punishment is quite amazing. This story has almost any plot element you can imagine a horror story containing. Who could have guessed, at the beginning of the story, that narrator had killed his wife? The course of events in â€Å"The Black Cat’s† plot is shockingly insane by itself! Moreover, the words in â€Å"The Black Cat† were precisely chosen to contribute to Poe’s effect of shocking insanity. As the narrator pens these he creates a splendidly morbid picture of the plot. Perfectly selected, sometimes rare, and often dark, his words create just the atmosphere that he desired in the story.

A study of Shakespeares presentation of women in Macbeth. Essay

A study of Shakespeare's presentation of women in Macbeth. Shakespeare has portrayed women to be mentally strong to the extent that they are able to speak their minds and show that they have aspirations. In my opinion women are shown with an inner strength that men lack as well as a connection to the dark and evil side of life. What should mainly be taken into consideration is the fact that this play is set in a world mainly dominated by masculine characters. Women were seen very differently to how they are in the present day. Men and women had different roles; this is shown by the fact that all the important people such as the thanes and the King were male. The King was said to be chosen by God. The Queen of Witchcraft was Hecate, who is obviously a female character and was most probably chosen by the devil. This shows a contrast. Lady Macbeth being the main female character in the play gives us an idea of Shakespeare's personal thoughts and views of women. She is seen to be the 'strong woman behind a great leader'. She makes decisions on behalf of Macbeth and plants ideas in his head. "Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here." (1.5 ll.38-40) This shows her calling evil spirits to help her with a plan to murder Duncan. This was done without consulting Macbeth, which shows that she has a lot of power in their relationship. The fact that she even calls evil spirits portrays her as a follower of witchcraft or another sinuous way of life. These were very much frowned upon during the period the play was set in aswel as during the reign of James I. Lady Macbeth asks to be 'unsexed' which could be interpreted as her having feelings that weren't meant to be experienced by women. ... ... idea about what sort of person or being Hecate is. Lady Macduff is shown as a strong-minded female character. She has a good relationship with her son as they have a conversation after Macduff's departure. Macduff's son shows her affection by adding humour in a tense situation as in Act 4 Scene 2. Later on in Act 4 Scene 3 after being warned of danger a murderer appears in Macduff's castle. The murderer fails to intimidate Lady Macduff as she keeps her head up by answering the murderer back. She and her son are then murdered. Women are shown to be strong-minded and to have connections with the other side of life, which was not thought highly of. These women are able to manipulate people in their own way. The witches trigger Macbeth to commit murder and Lady Macbeth masterminds the whole murder and reassures Macbeth that the murder is for the best.

Analyzations of Emily Dickinson’s Poems Essay

Emily Dickinson wrote multiple poems describing objects without ever saying the object’s names. A few examples would be her poems â€Å"Leaden Sieves,† â€Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,† and â€Å"Route of Evanescence.† These poems are similar to a riddle. In order to determine what her poem is about one must analyze the poems to identify what the object is by observing how appropriate the description is and how effective the language is in conveying the essence of the object. The first poem, â€Å"Leaden Sieves,† is about snow. The description and language was very clear to understand in this particular poem. Line 2 read, â€Å"It powders all the Wood.† Powder is white. The word â€Å"powder† also suggests that the object gently covers something. More details that lead the reader to believe that the poem could potentially be about snow fall in the following lines, â€Å"It reaches to the Fence/It wraps it Rail by Rail/Till it is lost in Fleeces† (9-11). These lines suggest that snow is covering the fence and its’ rails. â€Å"Till it is lost in Fleeces† is again suggesting that the object is white. Fleece is the coat of a lamb which is white. Lines 14-15 say, â€Å"A Summer’s empty room/Acres of Joints, where Harvests were.† These lines give the impression that it is the winter season. â€Å"A Summer’s empty room,† meaning that summer is gone and â€Å"where Harvests were,† imply ing that what used to be growth is now dead. Dickinson’s poem, â€Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,† is about a snake. The description and language was decently clear to understand in this poem. A reader can easily determine it is some type of creature that resides on the ground, but it is not very clear as to whether it is a snake or maybe a worm. When line 6 stated, â€Å"a spotted Shaft†¦Ã¢â‚¬ this gave assurance that a snake would be the more correct option since snakes can be spotted. â€Å"A narrow Fellow in the Grass/Occasionally rides/You may have met Him-did you not/His notice sudden is† (1-4). These line imply that it is a creature that slithers on the ground, and also that it moves fast because it can happen a upon a person at a â€Å"sudden† instant. Also the person in the poem mistook the object for a â€Å"Whip lash† (13) which is a rope. A snake is shaped like a rope. â€Å"Route of Evanescence† is very short poem so it’s description is difficult to catch onto. The length of poem plays an important part in the poem’s language though. This poem is about a hummingbird. Line 3 says, â€Å"A Resonance of Emerald† describes the object as possessing a deep, beautiful green color. â€Å"And every Blossom on the Bush/Adjusts it’s tumbled Head† (5-6) suggests flowers that are moving as if perhaps they have just been drank from by a hummingbird. The word â€Å"rush† in line 4 and the short length of the poem implies that the object is something that moves fast and is there and then gone in a blink. The final poem (#585) is about a train. â€Å"I like to see it lap the Miles/And lick the Valleys up† (1-2) suggests not only that the object moves but also that it can cover great distances by using the word â€Å"miles.† Also the object makes some type of noise. The following lines are two examples of the object having the ability to make noise, â€Å"In horrid-hooting stanza† (12) and â€Å"†¦neigh like Boanerges† (14). Lastly. the lines â€Å"The-punctual as a Star/Stop-docile and omnipotent/At its own stable door† (15-17) insinuates something arriving at a destination at a set time like a train does at a depot. Poems can describe objects without saying the object’s names. Readers can determine what the poem is about by analyzing the poems, observing how appropriate the description is, and how effective the language is in conveying the essence of the object. Dickinson’s poems â€Å"Leaden Sieves,† â€Å"A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,† and â€Å"Route of Evanescence† were riddles they were soon solved after a lot of analyzation.

Entertainment Writing Jobs You May Not Have Considered †Part 1 of 2

Entertainment Writing Jobs You May Not Have Considered – Part 1 of 2 As a former literary manager, I represented film and television writers for the better part of eight years. Many of the talented but less experienced writers who hadn’t yet made a living at the craft were solely interested in creating original screenplays that would be shopped to production companies, studios and packaging agents. They never wished to consider the myriad other ways they could make money in the industry with far less competition, even if such work might lead to their ultimate goals. Here are a few such ideas for those writers seeking to take the road less traveled: Become a Writer’s Assistant Feature film and television writers have assistants that do everything from menial work like rolling calls and faxing to more creative pursuits like researching, writing synopses, doing coverage, and even giving development notes. The hours might be long and the grunt work tiresome, but it’s one of the best ways to see how scripts get produced. It also allows you to make connections with other professionals like agents and producers. In the case of television, you see how a writer’s room runs while taking notes for the staff writers. Moreover, TV shows often promote from within, giving promising assistants an episode to write after a season or two. To get such a job requires tenacity and fortitude, but high turnover rate among industry assistants means jobs are opening up all the time. Join online writers’ groups and attend events to network with other assistants, scour entertainment job aggregators like the UTA Joblist, and post your assistant profile on job sites like Media Match to try and get in the door. Voice-Over Copywriting You hear voice-over in movie trailers all the time. You know the guy who begins Write Educational Materials Those with a more extensive track record and knowledge of the entertainment world could use their talents to help others. Educational materials such as how-to books, film history guides, and resource manuals have become a more viable option with the rise of downloadable ebooks and self-publishing. Having some specific know-how in a given area, whether it’s fundraising, non-linear editing or Italian New Wave directors, makes you more appealing. Reach out directly to university film departments to gauge their interest in your material, even before you create it. If they’re not interested, they may be willing to offer suggestions on materials that would better fit their curriculum. Smaller colleges and certificate schools may be more accessible for those writers who don’t have a master’s degree and a lengthy resume. You can also contact organizations like US-based TES, Journeys in Film or British-based Film Education to see if they’re willing to let you create paid lesson plans or other original teaching materials for their programs. In Pablo Nerudas short exposition, he talks aroun Essays

In Pablo Neruda's short exposition, he talks aroun Essays In Pablo Neruda's short exposition, he talks around about an affair he had as a youngster in his lawn. One day while looking through the fence encompassing his home, he saw a kid like himself who connected and gave him a toy sheep. The kid immediately vanished, so Neruda brought his very own fortune, and left he kid a little blessing in a similar spot. In spite of the fact that Neruda never again observed the kid, he kept the present for the res of his life. From this experience as a kid, Neruda says that he learned one of the best lessons about existence, that is the thankfulness and warmth from someone else, particularly somebody that you don't have the foggiest idea. This at last conveyed Neruda to the poss ibility that all of mankind is more noteworthy than the individual and that we are all by one means or another associated. Consequently, Neruda spent quite a bit of his grown-up life leaving words to individuals he didn't by and by know, demonstrating tend to all individuals of mankind. As RA's, I think we have a duty to show look after our inhabitants and the general population around us. We have all been through semesters at CMU, and I'm certain we've all accomplished those circumstances when you're qui te recently so overpowered with all the work you have and everything that is going on, that occasionally all you need is somebody to demonstrate that you're not the only one in this. It's imperative to demonstrate our occupants that we're here for them and think about their encounters. It will have a tremendous effect in the green beans involvement of our occupants, additionally, it will make a group where our inhabitants can figure out how to think about each other and their companions as opposed to grindi ng away alone. It is imperative that we make a group of companions who energize each other's objectives, rather than a group of people. This was plagiarized. Final Grade: 0

How to Write a Research Essay in Chemistry Practical Guide for Undergraduates

How to Write a Research Essay in Chemistry Practical Guide for Undergraduates Various scientific discoveries depend as much on the progress of innovative ideas as they do on the ability of a scientist to communicate those ideas to the audience. The truth is that the most significant scientific discoveries can be set back many years if the results are failed to be distributed in a concise and clear manner. This step-by-step guide will provide you with a solid foundation for researching, organizing, outlining, writing, and editing a clear research essay in the niche of Chemistry. The key goal of a research essay in Chemistry is not to simply articulate the work that has been done by an expert but to explain the scientific process that stands behind the extensive research. In other words, when it comes to the research essay in Chemistry, you’re not only a writer, but a real storyteller, narrator, and scientist, presenting the ultimate findings to the community. Therefore, an essay written for the field of Chemistry should comprise all steps of the scientif ic method. Brainstorming Ideas on the Topic If you’re given an opportunity to choose the research topic in Chemistry, make sure to give preference to the one that interests you at least a little. That last thing on earth you want is to end up spending many hours or days learning and writing about an issue that you have no interest in. The reality is that you will find the whole process more enjoyable if you really care about your research essay topic. Keep in mind the instructions and requirements that your tutor provided. For instance, if you have an opportunity to pick the topic but the general theme must fall under Inorganic Chemistry, don’t write an essay on the biography of the most famous Chemists. Stick with Chemistry topics that aren’t too simple or too complicated – make sure to stay somewhere in between. Do not make things more difficult! If you’re struggling with finding the hottest topic for Chemistry research, this collection will provide you with some important issues of current scientific interest and some historical points that are designed for both – experienced researchers and undergraduates: Substance Abuse and Chemical Changes in Human Body; The Similarities and Differences between Covalent and Ionic Bonds; Major Challenges for the Modern Chemistry; Acids, Their Use, Properties, and Composition; The Chemical Properties of the Artificial Organic Tissues; How Traumatic Experiences Such as the Holocaust Affect the DNA of the Next Generation; Michael Faraday: Contribution to the Field of Electricity and Magnetism; Key Changes That Should Be Made to Convince Civilization to Use More Renewable Energy; How Can Chemicals Help Prevent Allergies; Big Implications of Nano-reactors in Chemistry; Women in Science: Rosalind Franklins Accomplishments in the Field of Chemistry; Biomacromolecules and Their Importance in the Field of Chemistry; Organic Chemical Reactivity Functioning; Air Pollution in Fast Industrializing Countries; The Fascinating History Behind the Periodic Table; How Pesticides Affect Water Quality; Stem Cell Treatment: Pros and Cons; Reasons for Error in Chemistry Experiments; The Future of Analytical Chemistry; The Physics and Chemistry of Photonic and Electronic Materials; Laboratory Skills Essential for Chemical Equation Experiments; Chemistry in Ancient Civilizations Philosophical Attempt to Explain the Nature of Matter? Women of Science: The Struggles and Achievements of Marie Curie; The History of Chemical Experiments; Huge Gaps and Challenges in Astrochemistry. The goals of this step are to brainstorm intensively, come up with a topic that you’re passionate about, and develop a clear research question that you will extend later during the research stage. Thus, you will be able to research more efficiently because you’ll be well-prepared with the topic that is relevant to your skills and interests. Build up an Outline One of the most helpful things that you can do when working on the research essay in Chemistry is to outline the sections and primary points of the paper. It is an important thing to do before you start writing so you can visualize how every segment of the research essay will work with the rest of the text. What is more, this will give you an opportunity to re-organize components of the essay in order to make it go smoothly. Make your research essay outline as general or detailed, as you prefer, so long as it guides you throughout the essay building process. Some students tend to include a couple of sentences under every heading or sub-heading in their outline. Thus, they build a small essay before they start writing. At the same time, some prefer creating a simple list of topics and check them later. Choose the method that works best for you. It’s better to create your outline a day or two before you begin to write the research essay and come back to it several times. Thus, you will have a chance to think about how the sections of the text will best work together. Add and erase things in your essay outline as many times and as often as you want until you’re 100% sure you have a piece that you (and your tutor!) are satisfied with. Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself when you work on your outline: Is the research essay well-organized, and do the thoughts in your text flow logically from paragraph to paragraph? Is your thesis clear and well supported by solid arguments and experiments’ results? Have you made sure that each of your sources is cited properly? How repetitive is the essay? Is it possible to get rid of all the superlative issues in order to tighten the argument? The Writing Stage: Develop a Focus, Choose the Scientific Method, and Gather Sources A great way to start the research essay in Chemistry is through choosing the topics (done now!), the scientific method, gathering sources, and recording information on the note cards that you’ll use later in the process of writing. Formulate a question. At this point, you have to articulate the key scientific question that your research addresses. For instance, if you work on the Chemistry topic ‘The Effects of Pesticides on Human Health,’ your research question may sound as follows: ‘Are the effects of pesticides dire to people’s health?’ Do some background research. Determine what sort of work has been done in order to address the research question mentioned above, as well as confirm that your research is unique. For example: ‘The earliest documented pesticides were the heavy metals, salt, and sulfur. The use of the chemical compounds for pest control began at the dawn of agriculture and has carried on through the present day.’ Provide a hypothesis. Give certain predictions on what is going to happen based on the background research conducted. For example: ‘Increased risk of childhood cancer will be associated with usage of the pesticides.’ Experiment and analyze your data. Check the most recent stats, online publications, interview experts in the fields to test your hypothesis and draw the research conclusions. Check and discuss your results. This part of your research essay in Chemistry, usually the longest, describes the work that you, as the author, have done together with the results that you’ve obtained. While the necessary data here usually varies between the disciplines in the field of Chemistry, keep in mind that this part of your research essay is not just a technical description of all the steps. Instead, it’s a sort of a narrative that explains the progress of your research and your path to the final results. Here are some of the questions that will help you compose your analysis properly: Did each of your experiments work? What kind of explanation can be provided for this failure/success? How did you overcome the shortcomings in the initial experimental strategies? What fundamental principles in Chemistry are demonstrated by your results? Are your research results consistent with the experiments that were reported previously? What other experiments can be performed in order to (dis)prove this research? Form a conclusion. Prove the accuracy of the hypothesis and make sure to draw additional conclusions from the research. Create the Section for Cited Works This is an important section for every research essay since this is where you give credit to every source from which you took the information. Mind that it is something that you can’t leave for the end of your work. Rather, it is important to create the â€Å"works cited† section as you write, adding and taking away citation as you reference each in your text. Use software such as EndNote to make citation organization as clear, quick, and simple as you can. As an alternative, you may build the so-called reference library with a direct link to your essay document, adding as many in-text citations as you need in the process of writing. The program mentioned above creates a special section for the cited works right at the end of the document. Punctuation and Symbols Before you submit your research essay in Chemistry, make sure to check your text for common punctuation and symbols that one should use in this type of writing. Since MS Word does have all the required symbols, you’re not allowed to use shortcuts of any kind. Temperature: –60  °C. En-dash is here to indicate a negative sign with a space between the  ° and the number. Melting point: 75–89  °C. Since melting points are always a range, you have to use en-dash. Common abbreviations: Make sure to use the abbreviations in the field of Chemistry properly (h: hour(s) / calcd: calculated / min: minute(s) / equiv: equivalent, etc.) Weight: 0.066 g. It is important to use a leading zero in case a number is less than one. Besides, there should always be a space between the units and the number. Ratios: 86:3. Do not place a space before/after the colon. Some Errors to Avoid in a Research Essay in Chemistry Usually, students believe they accomplished a top-notch research essay in Chemistry. However, the reality is that there are some mistakes that you make without even knowing it. Here are some of them: Verb tense. Your Chemistry research essay should comprise the same verb tense from the introduction to the conclusion. Generally, past tense is preferred. At the same time, you may also use the present tense occasionally. Verb usage. Do not use active verbs. Avoid starting sentences with ‘there is’ or ‘there are.’ Incorrect: ‘There are many commercial beekeepers in the United States of America, who have lost over half of their bee colonies over the last ten years due to pesticides.’ Correct: ‘Commercial beekeepers in the United States of America have lost about half their bee colonies over the last decade due to pesticides.’ Colloquial expressions. If you communicate verbally, colloquial expressions might become pretty useful. However, when you deal with formal writing, keep away from these language elements. Among the most common examples in Chemistry, one should mention the word â€Å"reacted.† For example: ‘This element reacted with water.’ In this case, the word â€Å"treated† can be a good substitution for the term â€Å"reacted† in chemistry writing. Verb/subject agreement: Both the verb and the subject of a particular sentence should be either plural (‘carbon dioxide and water vapor’) or singular (‘carbon dioxide vapors’). When it comes to the subject that describes a collection, be attentive. For example: ‘the mixture of carbon dioxide and water was vaporing.’ Here the word ‘mixture’ has a singular form.

Assignment (Economics) Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

(Economics) - Assignment Example The demand for eggs will be inelastic because it is a necessity (food item). For instance, it also takes a low portion of income. The demand for DVD rentals would be relatively inelastic for a consumer who has high inclination for movies, dramas, shows, music etc. Also, it takes very low portion of income as the rentals are lower than acquisition costs. The demand would be elastic for a customer with no interest in music or entertainment. Answer 3 If a firm seeks to raise total revenue, then it must consider the impact of three major factors such as price, substitutes and time on consumers. For instance, the necessities (food, clothing, shoes, automobiles, utilities, communication, transport, internet etc.) have inelastic demand; therefore, a price increase will lead to an increase in total revenue. However, the luxuries (air travel, perfumes, expensive brands etc.) have highly elastic demand; therefore, the price increase will lead more than proportional decrease in demand and reven ue decreases. Next, if a product has greater availability of substitutes in market then price increase of a product will lead to increase in demand of substitute.

360 Degree Performance Morgan Stanley Case Study

360 Degree Performance Morgan Stanley - Case Study Example The problems at Stanley Morgan are associated with the improper assessment of the personnel of the company. The new system that is going to be implemented should resolve a lot of the inefficiency of the old system. I do not think that the problems the company faces are a symptom of a larger problem. An immediate issue that needs to be address is to ensure that the new evaluation system does not promote individualism over teamwork. â€Å"Teams are groups of people who work actively together to achieve a purpose for which they are all accountable† (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, 2003, pg. 192). The new evaluation system does not have the capability to differentiate between team skills and personal abilities of the workers. Team skills are a valuable ability for an employee to have due to the shift way from individualism in the corporate world. The new strategic direction of Morgan Stanley is geared towards being able to fully access the performance of the employees in order to maximize the capabilities of the workers of the firm. The new system will directly impact over 2,000 employees at Morgan Stanley. Strategic planning is critical to the success of a business because it describes where your company wants to go (Pirraglia, 2012). The morale of the employees is an important factor to monitor at Morgan Stanley. Three ways to improve employee morale are to keep employees feeling like work is more than just a job in an effort to keep enthusiasm high, creatively celebrate accomplishments, and allowing employees the freedom to pursue projects they are passionate about (Erb, 2012). Keeping the morale of the workers at the company high is very important because unmotivated workers with low morale typically are less productive employees. The job performance of the employees of a firm is the responsibility of the managerial staff

The Violence of Video Games on Children Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Violence of Video Games on Children - Essay Example Violent video games can have a serious negative effect on children, by giving them aggressive thoughts and actions. Aggressive acts are â€Å"acts that make a person more likely to commit a dangerous or harmful act† (McCormick, 2001, 279). Video games make some children aggressive in all of their behavior. Children who like to play video games sometimes try to imitate those things in real life. Video games make children become lost in the game and can be very addictive. In addition, video games make children scared because they have challenges with opponents in the game. Children who play video games may also experience emotional imbalance or bad dreams when they go to sleep. Because of the use of video games children â€Å"behave more aggressively† with their siblings and friends (Whitaker, 2009). When a child plays video games that have aggressive behavior, they will want to repeat that behavior with their siblings or friends. Children typically apply what they learn from violent video games to real life. Violent games reinforce bad behavior in children and can negatively affect the friendly relationship between siblings. In addition, children can also lack of a sense of their feelings. Children become violent with their siblings or friends because they cannot control themselves and their feelings of anger. Children who cannot get along with their friends without using violence think that they can always get what they want. Also, they feel glad when they make someone cry. Also, sometimes when they can’t win they will take it out on their siblings or friends. Children who play violent video games can thus become very antisocial because they don’t know how to get along with their peers. Another side effect of violent video games is that children may become less obedient to their parents and teachers. They may think they are smarter than those people and lie to them if they think they can get away with it. Children often need to stay with their parents and siblings so they can talk about real life issues, but video games can distract their attention. This negative behavior can make children stubborn. In addition, violent video games cause children to miss out on valuable lessons from their parents and teachers. These children often don’t follow school rules or respect the teachers. Once this happens, it is only a matter of time before these children suffer from poor grades due to their decreased focus on studying. Some of these same children will even go to school with having enough sleep and so they will be very tired. Video games can also destroy a child’s personality because it will lead them to not do homework. Some children can forget to do homework because they are so busy playing video games. Students can also lose interest in other activities. Video games prevent them from exercising because that time is spent playing video games instead. These children don’t read anymore because the y have found something that is much more exciting than reading. Therefore, their reading ability begins to suffer. These children also cannot go to play football outside with their friends because they are too busy enjoying time by themselves when they play video games. Furthermore, some children have drawing talent, yet when they ultimately get into video games

Globale warming Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Globale warming - Essay Example One of the reasons for this is due to research conducted on global warming, where there are studies indicative of increasing temperatures all around the globe and there is a potential for the failure of temperature regulation around the globe. This is to imply that there is a high possibility, according to some weather scientists, that the mechanism that ensures the weather and climate remains stable within the atmosphere is likely to fail, in which case the temperatures will fall to a scenario of the legendary ice age (Carter 2008, p.182). This accounts for the larger percentage of the reason why there are varying opinions pertaining to global warming, whereas there are others such as research that looks into the erratic patterns of the weather and the climate following the large impact of global warming across the globe. This is to an extent that it is difficult to provide detailed information on how much change has occurred and even future trends of the world based on climate chan ge studies, where the effects of different causative agents of global warming are evaluated and their amount of damage assessed to ensure that the latest data is acquired and utilized adequately. With this in mind, there are also sceptical scientists that only focus on single aspects of global warming thus with every new research or study on the weather, there is a new opinion based on hypothetical situations. This will be discussed later when looking at the future of the world from the perspective of global warning. Problem To understand the concept of global warming and even the theory of global warming, there is a need to look at the evidence presented by different researches as to how global warming works and affects the world. With this in mind, scientists have discovered that humans are the greatest cause of global warming, where they do not cause it by their state of being but through their activities, both economic and social. As a result, the temperatures of the earth have increased over the past 250 years at a steady pace, but this is not to mean that there are no other factors causing this. First looking at this reveals that burning fossil fuels for energy and heat is part of what causes global warming by releasing carbon dioxide which traps a layer of warm air (Jacobson 2004, p.2910). Findings that brought this to light states that a combination of human activities and natural causes has resulted in the rapid in surface temperature rise (Zuo et al 2012, p.3432). However, there are also other findings that refute and support this at the same time in that there are natural occurrences and human activities that have significantly contributed to the cooling of the earth meaning that a form of balance to the global temperature belt is returning including chloral-flouro-carbons. These include eruptions of mountains as seen in the 1991 case of Mt. Pinatubo, which lowered global temperatures for a number of years (Soden et al, 2002). On a similar note rese arch has also found that global warming is not necessarily a bad thing based on studies and evidence presented by various scientists. As such, there have been findings that since 1860 to date, there has been roughly an increase in global

Do they know where they are going A Literature Review of 14-19 year

Do they know where they are going A of 14-19 year old choices in Education in Wales - Literature review Example The Welsh education system since 2004 has realized the importance of the quality of education provided to 14-19 year olds as it is a sensitive age and the students need to be prepared for college or the work place. The grooming and education that is provided at this age will define their careers and paths for the future and thus it is of utmost importance that they are provided with ample opportunities and proper guidance. The Welsh Government aims to make 95% of the youth (up to age 25) ready for higher education or the job market by the year 2015 (Hafren). This review will focus on the options available to the Welsh students at this sensitive age and how they can help the students achieve academic as well as life skills. Education for the 14-19 age groups The verb to educate is drawn out from the Latin word ‘educare’ which means to draw out. Thus, education is supposed to draw out the hidden potential lout of blank canvases that are children. The age 14-19 is the most influential age and thus it is when students can be groomed and refined to develop personalities and skills that will enable them to achieve success. According to Richard Pring, the current system of education results in many students remaining untrained and fails to provide them with the skills necessary to excel in higher education or the job market. He believes that it is important to define what education means for these age groups and what results should it provide. According to him, the 19 year olds that the educational system should produce must not only be academic but young people with various strengths and a deep thinking ability concerned about the issues that the world faces. (Pring) Richard Pring focuses on the ‘urgency of debate’ as education has emphasized only in economic efficiency and performance but not on key issues and the development of the mind. It focuses too much on economic gain both by those that provide education and those that receive educat ion and too less than the development of the mind and grooming of students into intellectual beings. The result of a system driven by examinations and results has been deterioration in the learning experience. From the job perspective as well, the system does not equip students with the required interpersonal skills and training that would enable them to succeed in the world. There has also been an element of fierce competition between institutions rather than an inclusive and collaborative mindset resulting in emphasis on programs and results to attract students rather than focusing on providing superior education and working together to improve the system. The system also lacks the professional training of teachers catering to 14-19 year olds. (Pring) Qualifications There are basically two qualification frameworks available to Welsh students, also recognized in England and Wales. The National Qualifications Framework sets out the levels of qualifications recognized by England, Ire land and Wales. These qualifications are accredited by the regulators in all three states. The NQF recognizes entry level certificates, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), GCSE, Life Skills, BTEC, NQV, A levels and International Baccalaureate among various others. These qualifications focus on academic achievements and certifications. (DirectGov, 2009) The

Independence of Women in Marriage in the Medieval Era Essay

Independence of Women in Marriage in the Medieval Era - Essay Example Furthermore, since a man writes her prologue, we cannot help but think about why he wrote it. This imaginary character gives Chaucer a chance to address several subjects that might have been forbidden during his time. By making use of irony and wittiness, Chaucer is able to construct statements regarding women and how they are dealt with. It is ought to be noted that Chaucer was definitely seeking to embody a woman's voice. Actually, by creating the Wife of Bath, we can presume he wanted to produce a memorable personality in her. In her Prologue as part of "The Canterbury Tales" by Geoffrey Chaucer, The Wife of Bath offers readers a complex portrait of a medieval woman. On the one hand, The Wife of Bath is shameless about her sexual exploits and the way she uses sexual power to obtain what she wishes. Alternatively, by doing precisely these things she is bearing out unconstructive stereotypes regarding women and showing that women are manipulative and deceiving. Although her performances might at first appear to be uprising against the male-dominated culture in The Canterbury Tales, and more commonly, the medieval era for women, there is very slight that she does that is in fact revolutionary or making powerful women of her time. Based even just on her introduction in "The Canterbury Ta... be seen as a parody of sorts since she embodies a number of negative female characteristics including stupidity and arrogance; deceitfulness, and lewdness. Although she is striking back at men it is not for any deeper reason other than personal profit. It appears that in this section of the prologue to the Wife of Bath's tale, Chaucer wants his readers to laugh at this character rather than admire her for her proto-feminist stances on life and marriage. If the wife character in the Wife of Bath is meant to destroy the label of women, one could visualize that she would employ in intellectual and informed discussion with some of the constituents of her party. As it positions, however, the nearest she comes to this is by presenting her twisted consideration of the Bible. Rather conceitedly she declares in one of the significant quotes from The Canterbury Tales (and The Wife of Bath's Tale particularly), "Men may divine and glosen up and down / But well woot I express withouten lie / God bad us for to wexe and multiplye / That gentil text can I wel understone" (lines 26-30). While it can be found in the Bible that humans should procreate, it is worth noting that she prefaces this statement with a few words about how men sit and interpret the Bible. In her Prologue in the "Canterbury Tales" by Chaucer, the Wife of Bath is claiming that she too is capable of doing this and that the text is not beyond her reach. Yet, the setback with this is that she is not confirming anything about her cleverness; she is simply trying to prove or defend her loose actions along with the word of God. The Wife's symbolic techniques, however unscrupulous, achieve the desired results. The spectators cannot present instantaneous counter-arguments, and if we visualize her in the dramatic condition

Contemporary Religious Issues in Christianity Essay Example for Free

Contemporary Religious Issues in Christianity Essay Over time in various religions, there has been conflict. If not within one particular religion then there would be conflicting with each other. Christianity is a religion that most certainly has this issue. With many struggles in religion that people are face with today that would assists in the division of our human population, some religions still share some of the same beliefs. Though all religions are vastly different, the overall belief is geared to praise and worship God. Two religions that will be discussed in this paper that conflict with Christianity are Judaism and Islam. In Judaism, besides cultural division within, most of their conflict is with modern society. In Islam, the Muslim community has a great political outlook that has been coupled with their religious beliefs and stereotyping has been more recently a trigger for conflict. In this paper we will discuss the contemporary issues within Christianity. We will review the historical connections and theological similarities with other religions such as Judaism and Islam. We will also take a look at Christian denominations and how they interact with Buddhism. Contemporary Issues within Christianity Christians have struggles between their own religion, and with other religions beliefs. Christian’s belief in One God, God of Love. We can find a message in the passages of the Bible; in Genesis, a foundation about God’s creation. The concepts: stewardship and creativity, God blessed them; and God gave them this message, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth. Bible) 2012 â€Å". The Love of God gets lost in our daily living style because the temptation, we sin and man abused God’s stewardship, and we don’t follow what God is teaching us to do. Christianity and other religions in this new way of living, we all are challenge to face an inevitable change. Social and new technology is responsible for new changes. We ask ourselves, what about religion in the future. Influences, crisis, economy are slowly changing the conservative religion to their surrounding of cultures. This changes are giving new choices to each one of us, and some choices are giving us ethical and cultural choices that force us to examine ourselves in our most basic philosophical believes. Christians and other religions are facing some areas that may raise ethical and religion beliefs. How Christian must respond to such conditions? How can we live with this society and culture that surrounds us? Christ of Culture perspective is exactly the opposite of Christ against Culture This way of living brings culture and Christianity together. God is giving us life – Why humans want to decide to take away our own lives or others. Where is our belief and trust, or mainly where is our Faith in God. Why we want to take control. If God give us life; we must belief and have trust that he has a plan in our lives. Ethical termination of adult life. Do individuals have the right to end their own lives or the lives or their loved ones? Even with major circumstances, do we get the control; where is our faith and believe that God does the impossible. Christianity questions about today is questioning about euthanasia. Passive or Active). Passive allowing the person to die by discontinuing their treatments and active is taking some positive step to terminate the person life by toxic substance or the injection of an air bubble into the blood stream. Euthanasia is the act of putting the death of a person which their illness in not curable but is violating the six commandment† Thou shalt not kill (Murder). Such consent does not relieve the killer of guilt for the sin of murder. Euthanasia is an instance of murder, which is a categorically forbidden in scripture.  Exodus 20:13 (Bakers, 1973), pp. 222 F. This society is giving us the opportunity to take control in our own hands; new technology is changing tremendously our beliefs and if we don’t wake up. This society will be out of control. Historical Connections and Theological Similarities with Other Religions The main historical connection between Judaism and Christianity is the fact that Christianity is a product of Judaism. This happened around the first century C. E. when Christianity was spreading rapidly throughout Europe. Besides Christianity forming out of Judaism, it has a connection through Jesus Christ, as we all know Jesus was a Jew. In fact for most of his life Jesus practice the Judaist faith and even celebrated Jewish holidays. Some of these holidays even became the basis for some of Christianity’s holidays, such as Easter which is based on the Jewish holiday â€Å"Passover†. Despite the fact that Christianity was a result of Judaism, Christians tended to have more freedom than Jews, while the latter was often persecuted for practicing their religion. Christianity has a connection to Israel that is almost as strong as Judaism. Nazareth which is based in Israel is considered the birthplace of Jesus, as well the birthplace of the Jewish Christian Church, however after the destruction of the church’s temple in 70C. E it seems that the church gradually faded into existence. While there may be some differences in how each religion worships and celebrates their religions. They both emphasize people being kind towards one another, believing in one God, and just being an overall good human being. The Christian and Islamic faith do share some of the same beliefs though their religions are vastly different. They both believe that there is one God and that God created the planet and mankind. They to both agree that God is the way of morality and the way or path of justice. It is also believed between the two religions that overall judgment of life is decided after life by heaven or hell. The fundamentalists Muslims and Christians also believe in pollutants such as porn and licentious helps destroy a community or society. There is a huge negative emotion in the western civilization in Islamic countries which explains the reasons of influences that evolve from out west. Of course there are obvious differences between both Christianity and Islam that will forever be unsettled. In these religions, pivotal doctrines are the points in which Christianity and Islam disagree. The overall tone of both beliefs are peaceful, caring, and loving human beings. The Muslim religion has points of emphasis on being peaceful, for instance; In Islam, the Muslims look to Sura 22:56 who say when speaking of religion there’s no compulsion. Though many in the world of Islam would believe that no compulsion means inside their religious world there is no competition amongst religion. Sura 29:46 says do not have a quarrel with outside religions but only if there is wrong doing. However, Sura 41:34 say to be make nice with the person doing wrong by doing good things for that person. Almost similar is the bible which has its parts of conflict with violence mostly from the Old Testament. It contests that a Canaanite society is infested with evil doings especially child sacrifice. God sent Israelites to enforce against the particular injustice and further on did the same against the Israelites. Situations like this within the scriptures of the bible are specifically minimal in circumstances during this time all implemented by God. But as the Quran would suggest, their religion puts this type of command in any time, place, and against any people or religion. Christian Denominations In religion, there is a power struggle to keep itself together. The ten commandments were clear on this issue. â€Å" Thou shall not worship false idols†, (Ten Commandments, 2002-2011). But there are seven billion people on this planet. Chances are that at least one of those seven billion people would want to worship another idol. From this idea, they would separate from their original church and form their own church. Worshiping whomever they found fit to be the one who deserved to be worshiped. As a matter of fact, this has happened many times in the history of Christianity and Judaism. Why are there so many Christian denominations? Well first we would have to differentiate between the non-Christian cults, and the false religions. Christian denominations are Lutherans, as well as Presbyterians. Then there are Jehovah’s witnesses and the Mormon religion, are examples of such cults. But islam and buddism are separate religions all together. Trials such as the protestant reformation gave rise within the Christian church to denominations. A movement to reform the roman catholic church that took place during the 16th century. Out of this event, four major division of traditional Protestantism emerged. These four were Lutheran, reformed, Anglican, and Anabaptist. But many more denominations would grow over the coming centuries. The denomination Lutheran was named after Martin Luther. This is based off of his teachings. Methodist was named from its founder, John Wesley. John Wesley was famous for coming up with methods for spiritual growth. Presbyterianism is named from their view on the churches leadership, and finally, Baptists. They got the name from the importants of the baptism ceremony. But not all the other denominations believe in baptism. So each one has a slightly different doctrine. Another is the availability of the lords supper to all. Or at least those who’s testimonies could be verified by the church leaders. Looking at why they have divisions, it seems clear that its not about Christ as the lord and savior. But it seems rather the differences of opinion by godly, flawed evidence, people seeking god. Seeking to retain doctrinal purity of what is their understanding of his word. Looking at today, denominations are many and vary wildly. The denominations have spawned numerous styles such as Nazarenes, Christian and Missionary Alliance, Evangelical Free, Assemblies of God, ect. Some styles of denomination, emphasizes very little doctrinal differences. But more often, they simply offer different styles of worship. Fitting the differences of Christians. This is the cause for so many forms of Christianity. Conclusion In this paper we have gone over the contemporary issues within Christianity. We have reviewed the historical connections and theological similarities with other religions such as Judaism and Islam. We have also taken a look at Christian denominations and how they interact with Buddhism. In our research we have found that Christianity and other religions in this new way of living, we all are challenge to face an inevitable change. Social and new technology is responsible for new changes. In these religions, pivotal doctrines are the points in which Christianity and Islam disagree. Christianity has a connection to Israel that is almost as strong as Judaism. Some styles of denomination, emphasizes very little doctrinal differences. But more often, they simply offer different styles of worship.

Low Cost Leadership Strategy

Low Cost Leadership Strategy In the world of businesses today, every organization definitely needs information systems in their way of doing business. Laudon and Laudon define information system as a set of interrelated components that retrieve, process, store and distribute the information to support the decision making in an organization. In fact, those who acquire a decent information system would eliminate those who dont have to fight against it. The ever changing world of information technology brings new challenges for every organization to set up an information system that would provide numerous advantages. According to Laudon and Laudon (2009), there are six main reasons why business are investing millions of dollar in information system and technologies, among them are operational excellence; new products, services, and business models; customer and supplier intimacy; improved decision making; competitive advantage and last but not least, survival. Therefore, Aalsmeer Flower Auction (will be known as Aalsmeer throughout the research paper) who is encountering several problems would need the help of information system to overcome the problems. 2.0 Information strategy 2.1 Analysis of current situation Aalsmeer is facing threats from various sources and should utilize the information technology today in defending their business. Laudon and Laudon (2009) believe that the more successfully a firm can align the information technology with business goals, the more profitable it will be. Apart from that, business people who claim themselves do not understand information technology will pay a hefty price in poor performance (Laudon and Laudon, 2009). In the market today, electronic driven flower market is becoming more and more dominant than the traditional way of doing business. Besides, the competitive environments among the retailers encourage them to merge and forming a larger company with an increased in demanding power. Indeed, they are demanding fresher products, more varieties, smaller quantities and multiple deliveries and this inevitably exert pressures on Aalsmeer who needs to change their way of doing business in order to survive. It is advisable for Aalsmeer to adopt a new strategy for the organization to achieve their business objectives and ensure competitive advantage in the industry. The objectives of Aalsmeer at the moment are: Enable innovation for the business processing methods Redefine the value chain to reduce transaction costs Integrate smoothly with wholesalers and retailers Increase the market share to increase profit 2.2 Low-cost leadership strategy After examine the current situation of Aalsmeer, low-cost leadership strategy is undoubtedly the most suitable for the company now. Low-cost leadership strategy is centered on the capability of Aalsmeer to produce and deliver the products of high quality at low costs. A company having low-cost leadership when extends its value to customers expectation, can further strengthen its strategic position in the market place, (Alagse, n.d). In fact, information systems could be use to lower the operational costs and hence, lower prices for the customers. The typical example is Wal-Mart, which is a company continuously relies heavily on information system to reduce costs and this leads them to one of the largest profitable company. They replenish the products as soon as the customers make payments at the cashier. The computers collect information from the stores and send it to suppliers and therefore, Wal-Mart does not need to spend large amount of money on maintaining large inventories. Aalsmeer offer relatively standardized products with features that are acceptable to customers; in other words, with minimum differentiation at the lowest competitive price. In addition, Aalsmeer who are suggested to follow a low-cost leadership strategy need to maintain constant efforts aimed at lowering their costs, but yet creating values for the customers. Such efforts include investing in technologies, establishing tight control of production and overhead costs, minimizing the cost of sales and services. Specifically, investing technologies means to develop a new information system for Aalsmeer to achieve the objectives stated earlier which would be discuss later on this proposal. Implementing the strategy means Aalsmeer must consider its value chain of primary and secondary activities and effectively link them to be successful. The critical focus now is to increase the efficiency of how the business process. In detail, processes and procedures of selling flowers to customers must be simplified, achieving efficiency and effectiveness and last but not least, monitoring the cost of activities provided by others that interface with the companys inbound and outbound logistics. For instance, the delivery travel costs. Moreover, when Aalsmeer successfully implements the low-cost leadership strategy, it can still obtain a high return even when the Porters five competitive forces are strong. Porters five forces Explanation Traditional competitors When Aalsmeer is offering the lowest cost in the market, the competitors will undoubtedly consider competing in a price war, and even if it does, Aalsmeer will still continue to earn profit after the competitors compete away their profits. Customers If there is any customers tends to drive prices below the cost of the next most efficient company, that company might choose to exit the market and leaves the low-cost company with a monopoly position. Therefore, customers would lose bargaining powers when that happens since low-cost company would be in a position that has power to raise the prices. New market entrants Aalsmeer who successfully utilize the low-cost strategy generally will sell in large volume to earn high profit. This indirectly creates a barrier for the new entrants who need to enter the industry at large scale (large enough to achieve the same economies of scale with low-cost company). Suppliers Once Aalsmeer achieve the lowest cost in the market, it enables them to absorb a greater amount of cost increases from suppliers before it must raise prices charged to customers. Moreover, Aalsmeer who will be dominating the market may force the suppliers to hold down the level of price increases, reducing the power of suppliers. Substitute products and services Aalsmeer, as a low-cost leader will be in a more attractive position relative to the substitutes. They could reduce prices to maintain the price-value relationship to retain customers from going to the electronic driven market. 2.3 Enterprise Resource Planning The information system that is suggested for Aalsmeer would be the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), which can be define as a set of integrated programs capable of managing a companys vital business operations for an entire multi-site, global organization. ERP attempts to integrate the key business processes of an entire firm into a single software system that allows information to flow seamlessly throughout the organization. For instance, the transactions with customers and flower growers. Indeed, the key to ERP is real time monitoring of business functions, which allows timely analysis of key issues such as quality, availability, customer satisfaction, performance and availability. It is a set of integrated software modules and a central database that enable data to be shared by many different business processes and functional units throughout the enterprise (Curtis Cobham, 2005). Sources: extolcorp ERP functional units Financial and accounting The Aalsmeer is facing challenges from the electronically driven flower markets and due to this reason, it is vital for them to have a complete accounting system. All the transaction ought to be recorded quickly with no error or minimal error in order to let the other departments to take the next actions immediately. It also includes cash management and forecasting, credit management and financial reporting. It would gives Aalsmeer an edge if they could forecast the cash flow and make important decisions when necessary such as, stop buying stock of flowers when they flower markets are down in particular period. Human Resource Since consumers are demanding fresher products, more varieties and smaller quantities, the human resource definitely needs an information system that can divide the jobs to each employees from each department of the organization. Therefore, the company could satisfy the demands from the consumers. Besides, human resource process also involves performance management and travel expense reporting. The new system could do a performance analysis of the current situation and make necessary changes to it. Apart from that, the travel expenses such as petrol fees can be monitored closely to avoid any extra expenses being used. Manufacturing and production Whereas the manufacturing and production processes includes mainly the procurement process, which is the action of obtaining flowers at the operational level. As the problems stated, the growers are becoming more professional and starting to utilize the electronic way of selling their flowers. The system could manage the inventory effectively by not wasting any extra capital to rent the inventory, or having insufficient place to keep the flowers. This is to ensure the flowers are in good quality control and further strengthen the links between wholesalers and retailers when they actually get what is ideal for themselves. Supply Chain Management It is composed of three sub processes: demand planning, supply planning and demand fulfillment. Demand planning is to understand the customers buying patterns and then develop aggregate long-term or short term forecast of demand on the flowers. Whereas the supply planning includes the strategic inventory with distribution planning and demand fulfillment is to provide a fast, accurate and reliable delivery for customer orders. It also helps to determine what type of supplies is required, what quantities are needed to meet the demand, and how the shipments of supplies and products to customers are to be scheduled, monitored and controlled. Customer Relationship Management A system that helps in all aspects of customer encounters, including marketing and advertising, customer service after the sale and programs that retain loyal customers. Aalsmeer ought to understand the needs of current and potential customers to increase customer retention and loyalty, which leads to a bigger market share. With the processing system capturing data of every customer with the company, Aalsmeer would then know the best way to sell the flowers based on the analysis such as customer preference, time of purchasing, ways of purchasing and many more. This could ensure an increase in efficiency of the selling force and then, increase the productivity by focusing on the most profitable customers. 2.4 Advantages of ERP Agile manufacturing underpins the success of Smart car, DailerChryslers city car brand. Smart has successfully responded quickly to customer demands ever since they have adopted the ERP system from Baan, the Dutch software vendor (Geoff Nairn, 2003, as cited in Curtis Cobham, 2005). The optimized production is due to shorter processes but yet still came out with reliable products. Advantages Explanation Improvement of Work Process It ensures good work processes based on best practices which lead to increased efficiency. In this case, the ERP could helps in reducing costs for the organization, such as human resourcing or transaction cost. Besides, it eliminates the problem of synchronizing changes between multiple systems and provides a top-down view of the enterprise at anytime. Increase in Access to Data for Operational Decision Making The data is integrated from all the departments in the organization to provide excellent support for operational decision making. In addition, it allows the company to provide greater customer service and support, strengthen customer and supplier relationship, and also generates new business opportunities. The system connects the necessary software for accurate forecasting and this allows inventory levels to be kept at maximum efficiency. 3.0 Methodology 3.1 System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Kay. R (2004) believes that System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is a model created for an organization when adopting a new information system. In fact, SDLC is a sequential series of steps to build an information system and it is one of the most common development strategies. It is best to follow the SDLC which consists of five phases: system planning, system analysis, system design, system implementation, system operation and maintenance. The phases are interconnected by the inputs and outputs, and if the previous phase has poor outputs, the rest would be affected. 3.1.1 System Planning The first phase of SDLC is system planning, which happen when there is a request of a new system. Aalsmeer realizes that they need a new information strategy in order to remain strong player in the market. A preliminary investigation ought to be conducted to review the existing system and identify the problems. Indeed, a feasibility study could be carried out to identify whether the proposed new system is feasible to be implemented. If the new system is possible, practicable, reasonable and applicable in four main aspects, then the management should invest on it in order to get benefits in a long term. Aspects Why? Technical feasibility To determine whether a new IS can be developed with available technical resources. Does Aalsmeer Flower Auction have the hardware, software and equipments? Can it be developed with current technology? Economic feasibility To determine whether the new IS has a reasonable cost despite the changes it will brings Can Aalsmeer Flower Auction bear with the cost? Operational feasibility To determine if the new IS will be used effectively and efficiently after it is developed Are the changes to business operation minimal? Schedule feasibility To determine whether the new IS can be developed within an acceptable time frame? After conducting the feasibility test, Aalsmeer could then decide the actions to be taken based on the preliminary investigation report. 3.1.2 System Analysis Next, it is the system analysis phase, where the purpose is for Aalsmeer to learn how to improve the existing system, and then determine what the new system should do in order to achieve the goals. Therefore, the organization could find some facts about the current system, such as the strength and weakness of it and produce a report with what is required in the new system. Requirement Anticipation Requirement Specification Requirement Investigation In fact, Aalsmeer could gather the facts by study existing documentation, interview with employees, observation and questionnaire. Then, operational details and performance criteria need to be specified and examined, i.e. the speed of the ERP system after developed. After that, this phase carefully analyzes the information and then prepares a system requirement document which should include managements and users requirements, and recommended plan to develop the new ERP. 3.1.3 System Design This is the phase where after the management level has decided to develop a new system for the organization. A blueprint, which is a detailed plan that satisfied all requirements specified, needed to be develop at this phase. Aalsmeers management should discuss this with all the employees in order to develop a system that satisfies everyone. Programs related are written, tested and documented by the analyst. In addition, internal and external controls are to be designed to ensure the system would be reliable, accurate, maintainable at any time and secure. Lastly, this phase would end up with system design specification where the blueprint is presented to managements and the actual users for review and approval. 3.1.4 System Implementation At this phase, the developed ERP system will be installed in the organization. In addition, operational documentation and procedures of the new ERP system are prepared for the Aalsmeer employees. The employees would need to attend classes to be trained in order to utilize the system effectively. This is a phase of conversion from old system to new system. Indeed, the new system is a huge and complex one, so Aalsmeer could install the software step by step and therefore, it would not crash the whole system when some particular department has problem using it. Aalsmeer could create a legal contract that indicates the system is approved and will be signed by users and stakeholders (Stair Reynolds, 2008). A post-implementation system evaluation could be done to access the quality of the system. Apart from that, it is to examine whether the system operates ideally and are the costs and benefits within the earlier expectations. 3.1.5 System Maintenance This phase is an on-going process as the purpose is to support the operation of the system through proper maintenance, enhancement and protection. Under the maintenance process, any broken hardware is repaired or replaced to avoid any surprising break down. Besides that, the Aalsmeer needs to optimize the system to make the system run smoothly. For example, by compressing the data base, or delete the old and unused files. When there are any errors detected, modification should be done as soon as possible (Stair Reynolds, 2008). On the other hand, enhancement is needed at particular time interval to increase the system capability such as adding more hard disk space to store a large database of customer information. In addition, new functionalities and features could be added when there is a change in the ways of doing business. Lastly, the protection on the system to ensure it is not attacked by any virus or hackers. The firewall of the system is configured and monitored to minimize the chances of being attacked. Besides, backing up the database is definitely a good way to protect all the customer information which is private and confidential. King Stairs Software (n.d.) mentioned that a proper backup strategy is vital for business as well as personal users. 4.0 Impacts and effectiveness of ERP Systems changeover can be effected in some ways which not only has certain benefits, there will be drawbacks as well (Curtis Cobham, 2005). 4.1 Organization The purpose of this research is to identify a way for Aalsameer to strengthen itself in the market. It is believed that the company is able to reduce the operational cost, due to the effectiveness of the system to finish up the work in lesser time given. The new system would emphasize on the information technologies, where the large amount number of workers is no longer needed. Apart from that, the organization can offer lower cost compared to rivals. The ERP system enable the organization to fight with the electronically driven market and thus, accelerating the business growth. Besides, the budget saved can be use on the marketing campaign to promote the new system of organization to public, and thus, they would be well aware of the new operating business model. However, Aalsameer should consider whether the system supports the business objectives (OBrien Marakas, 2008). If the system does fully support the business objectives, it is worth to be invested even though they may face problems on capital, when hiring the system vendors to develop it. If the system does not support the objectives, Aalsmeer may need to re-consider the actions taken before. 4.2 Management Whereas for the management level, the reports statement such as invoice, can be generated through online now. It saves the time for everyone the processing time is cut down in a systematic way. To top it off, it reduces the workload easily and the burden of management level can be taken off. Therefore, it increases the efficiency of management level since they can rely on the ERP system more than before. By using a complete and efficient ERP system, it also reduces the error or mistake which could possibly occur when the work is done by human alone. The process of paper work simply becomes easier, simpler and faster for management and they could put more attention on other problems. For example, searching for more potential customers via new marketing communications. On the other hand, they can put more emphasis on matters that could possibly cut down the operational cost such as downsizing the number of workers in the organization. Since the organization is utilizing the ERP system now, it is possible to rely on the technology instead of human hand to do the work. However in reality, it may be difficult for the management to layoff the employees who may be had work for the company long time, but it is essential to make the decision as it benefits the organization, after all. 4.3 Employees Certainly, there would be several impacts on the employee of the organization, who is the direct users of the new ERP system. Firstly, it may create a chaos in them, where the new system would take over their position by terminating them. Besides, elderly employees who are not familiar with new technology, or not used to changes in working environment will definitely suffer in using ERP when the system is installed. Indeed, employees who are not good at adapting to the surrounding will face hardships this may create a negative environment in the organization. However, it is believed that after few months, they will eventually find themselves comfortable with the ERP. Moreover, the new system will ease the burden of the employees, and increase the time for them to focus on their work. For instance, they can provide a good and reliable quality of customer service which in long term, will bring up the reputation of Aalsmeer Flower Auction. Moreover, since the ordering and payment are all done online now, it simplifies the working process. Indeed, employee would be more ambitious in completing their tasks. 5.0 Conclusion All in all, Aalsmeer definitely needs a new information strategy as well as a new information system in order to achieve the business objectives. Ideas suggested to Aalsmeer are considered carefully and it is believed as the best way for the organization now. If Aalsmeer would to follow the proposal carefully, they would achieve the business objectives and make a success in the market today. References Books Curtis, G. Cobham, D., 2005. Baptist Bible Fellowship International :: bible colleges, chruch, fellowship

The Baptist Bible Fellowship International has done great things throughout the many years of its existence. The reason for the group’s success has been through missions, evangelism, Bible Colleges, and church planting. In the 1950’s the World Baptist Fellowship ruled the Baptist scene. During the era of the WBF there was a conflict that arose as J. Frank Norris attempted to overthrow G.B. Vick’s presidency at his Bible College. Norris desired to be president of the college that Vick established. Norris attempted to push Vick out by spreading rumors and causing dissension regarding Vick’s character among the students that attended the college. Jeffery D. Lavoie writes in, Segregation and the Baptist Bible Fellowship, that G.B. Vick aided a â€Å"movement† for a new fellowship after being removed from his presidency by J. Frank Norris. When about one hundred pastors decided leave the WBF and start a new fellowship. With the leadership of Vick and t he other pastors, a brand new fellowship called the Baptist Bible Fellowship was created in May 1950 (Lavoie 2). The WBF was the most prominent fellowship among Baptist pastors, and slowly after the BBF was formed, the WBF faded away. To this day is still existing and running as a missions agency. As time passed, the BBF had the desire to communicate the need for missions and missionary help. In 1975, in order to raise the awareness of missions, the BBF changed the name from, Baptist Bible Fellowship, to Baptist Bible Fellowship International or BBFI. The reason for the name change was to emphasize missions among the group of pastors (Lavoie 3). This change of heart and emphasis helped in creating some of the greatest missionaries the world has ever seen. The Baptist Bible Fellowship International produced an abundance of great missionaries, while all missionaries deserve their honor and dues: three of the most influential missionaries from the BBFI are John Birch, Fred Donnelson, and Bob Hughes. One of the most influential missionaries within the BBFI is John Birch, whom God brought to the world on May 28th, 1918, in Landour, India. Mike Randall the writer of an article in Our Baptist Heritage about John Birch explains how John Birch’s parents, George Birch and Ethel Birch, taught at Ewing Christian College in Allahabad, India. George suffered from chronic health problems, but that problem did not stop them from completing at least three years of ministry in India.

CQ- Self Assessment

Interestingly, regardless to what cultural ethnic one may claim, or what their particular values are; one thing that Is a common factor to all Is that before we can understand someone else, we must first seek our own understanding. â€Å"Human beings are more than a product of their circumstances or geographic location. Their innermost beliefs and values ultimately influence how they act† (Reilly, 2013).An additional definition of cultural intelligence cited in this week's lecture, puts a fine tune on the subject; as Early & Moisakos) describes Its simply blending in with the mall stream of population, this explanation Is nice as It covers a lot of ground In Just a few short words (2004). Figuratively, a part of ones destination on earth is to face the challenges that have been set forth. Seemly, these challenges fall under the category of cultural intelligence as one fulfills his/her Journey of learning to cope with the world on different levels in general. However, when we sp eak on human beings, we are speaking generally on society and cultural because they run hand in hand. If here was no society, there would be no culture. Culture can easily be described as the different activities, beliefs, and behaviors, of Like Individuals. Each culture has their own set of values, morals, and organizational goals. There is such thing as well cultured individuals (sometimes referred to as upper-class) that may go an extra mile to gain knowledge on the different diverse aspects of life. This type takes the opportunity to go that extra mile in fulfilling their educational and Christian goals. They enjoy the finer things In life, and have no problem with doing hat Is necessary to malting that goal. Then there Is another type that settles for average they may have been talking about fulfilling the goals of a well cultured individual for the last twenty years, but has yet to take a step toward doing so. Lastly, there is a group of individuals who are totally content with living in poverty and hanging around the local food banks everyday seeing what that can get for free. These three categories are examples of what make up a society in any given societal The way that Livermore explains culture is so very Interesting because aspect. In the text he sheds light on Issues that at some point In an Individuals life these things were taken for granted, probably because one had no idea that these things had a title. In supporting this last sentence the author is making reference to how Livermore describes culture â€Å"as an elusive, dynamic concept that shapes everything we do, things such as eating, sleeping, and bathing as an abstract of how we read the Scriptures, relate to God and communicate truth, are all rooted In our cultural context† (2009 p. 90).As Livermore speaks on these concepts, It brings to mind how e have all become accustomed to, as a way of life. Our own life pattern has a lot to do with how one's culture is created. Attaining as m uch knowledge as possible is always a plus because it assists in developing cultural intelligence. Speaking on the development of cultural intelligence; Reilly, offers important factors of gaining knowledge â€Å"gather facts about different people, places, political and economic systems, their traditions, diet and fashions, this can be done formally or informally, by using social networks or from first-hand experience† (2013).Additionally, once knowledge is gained it can be used toward building awareness and respect for others culturally. Respecting other cultures is a must. Some may think that because another individual may wear different types of clothing, or eat different types of food, or talk a little different than themselves, that it's k to make fun or disrespect them. As we are all culturally different to some degree we must not Judge or be bitter towards anyone but instead show love, respect and kindness. As much knowledge as one may have on culture it doesn't rut to periodically do a self-assessment. Self-assessments are designed to enhance our understanding of cultural intelligence (2009). It could probably be looked upon like taking your car in for an oil change, enhancing the durability of your car, making sure everything is running smoothly. Taking a self-assessment test gives one the opportunity to enhance themselves in all phases of cultural diversity. After completing the given self-assessment I was really surprise.Apparently I do not give myself enough credit. According to the interpretation of the score in neural, I fell under the guidelines of having an average ICQ in my ability to work in a diverse cultural setting. My knowledge of cultural strategic thinking surprises me as it showed excellent. This is the area that I would have thought to be average. Perseverance showed that I am excellent in cultural motivation, and the interpretation of my score for behavioral ICQ fell under the guidelines of being moderate, this one I don't agr ee with at all. After my very first cultural experience, I honestly feel that I learned a lifetime worth of knowledge in regards to my behavior. Livermore, notes that â€Å"many individuals under-or overestimate themselves; therefore, a multilateral assessment has much greater validity' (2013). For my ministry my behavior needs to be excellent. Over the next 12 months I will work earnestly at improving my two average scores. Miraculously, the two average scores being behavior and my ability to work in an average setting are the two that are of most importance to me simply because of my Spiritual calling to advocate with teens all over the world.I have absolutely no room for average in these areas, these hillier need help and the Holy Spirit has chosen me as one of His disciples in this particular ministry. My plan is to seek further testing, consulting and training in the needed areas. Instead of being a volunteer advocate for Boy Scouts of America twice a month, I will put in my bi d to volunteer three times a month. This will give me hands on chance to work on my behavioral and cultural diversity setting skills. I will spend more time with my students in my youth ministry outreach program. Fasting more and prayer will be an additional item on my to-do-list.Instead of staying n my quiet place in prayer for an hour every day for the next 12 months I plan to add and additional thirty minutes. Being around people in general should also help with more activities at the local youth centers as well as at church. In conclusion, the ICQ self-assessment test has been completed; review and the finding have been reported. Several explanations or definitions of cultural intelligence from different scholars have been discussed and evaluated. Last, a twelve month plan to improve my overall ICQ has been added including a full discussion on my honest intentions.
