Victoria is a 29 year old woman of Indian decent, her booking body mass index was 22.5 and her expectant due date was 22/09/2015. Victoria gave birth to a live male infant named Noah, on the 24/08/2015 at 35 weeks and six days gestation, classing him as a late preterm. He weighed 2740gms and plotted on the 82nd customised centile. Victoria had gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), which is defined as â€Å"carbohydrate intolerance of variable severity with an onset or first recognition during pregnancy† (Pairman, Pincombe, Thorogood, Tracy, 2015; Harley Wiznitzer, 2010; Erem, Kuzu, Deger Can, 2015). Globally GDM is a common condition raising serious concerns. It carries many associated maternal and neonatal/childhood morbidities, including the development of type two diabetes in both mother and child and in Victoria’s case, preterm birth (Poulakos, Mintziori, Tsirou, Taousani, Savvaki, Harizopoulou Goulis, 2015; Roje Vucinovic, 2011; Catalano, Patrick, McIntyre, Da vid, Cruickshank, Kennedy, McCance David, 2012). This is a case study that will analyse Victoria’s and Noah’s maternity experience including the diagnosis and treatment of her GDM, underlying physiology and pathophysiology of the condition and the controversy surronding best practice. Martin Luther was born on November 10th in 1483, in the Saxon town of Eisleben located in Germany. Martin was born of mother Margrethe, who many of his enemies thought of as being a whore and a bath attendant, yet Martin recalled her later on in life as someone who was hardworking and very able and willing to punish him if he had done wrong. There are different faculties at QE as well as different year groups, however members of staff must work together sometimes to benefit the student and ensure the school and lessons are running efficiently. For example if a student is miss-behaving in a science lesson the science faculty would get involved to discipline and punish the student accordingly, if this does not improve the situation the head of year would be brought in to work with the science faculty in sorting out the problem efficiently so lessons can go on as normal with minimal disruption to other students and teachers. Without good teamwork and communication between functional areas, each functional areas jobs and tasks would be much harder to complete and they would not be completed as quickly and efficiently as they are when working alongside each other . As well as the functional areas working as a whole amongst each other it is also crucial that the tasks that support the functional areas are running efficiently as this contributes to the overall efficiency of the company. Some of these tasks include receiving and taking messages, monitoring stationary and stock levels and organising events. Such tasks are important as without them each individual functional area would lose efficiency which would be extremely detrimental for the company. For example if the person who answers the staff phone at Tesco got a call from a member of staff saying that they were ill and would not be in to work, it is important that message gets passed on to their department so the department can call in for extra staff and that they know that person will be absent. If this is not done then the department won’t be able to sort out replacement staff and would probably call the member of staff that is unwell and ask why they are absent even though they have already called in and said and so they may get in trouble with their department. If this is done efficiently then the staff will have time to find replacements and work will not be disrupted however if it isn’t then replacements may not be found which could mean the company’s performance for that day is influenced.

A personality is an array of â€Å"psychological† characteristics that makes each person unique, in their own way. Upon analyzing my own personality, I believe that my overall character is one that understands, can relate, and focuses on the big picture both in my personal life and in the work environment. Therefore, in analyzing personalities in the work environment, I reference the â€Å"big five† personality traits to determine whether or not I do or do not agree with other individuals in the workplace. The first of the â€Å"big five† personality traits is â€Å"agreeableness. † I comprehend this attribute as an individual’s knack to get along with others. While it is great to agree with people just as much as it is not so favorable to typically disagree, it really needs to be balanced. In the work environment, agreeing with people does, for the most part mean that he / she tends to be accommodating. Yet, people can take that for granted. In my eyes, that is viewed as a weakness. While this trait is being analyzed in the work environment, we have to remember that the employees are also humans, and what happens in the work environment usually happens in one’s personal life. Always agreeing can also mean that the individual is submissive, and may do this at a time where assertiveness or conflict is necessary. Having the â€Å"agreeableness† trait must come along with analytical skills, so if and when there is an organizational decision that needs to be made, deciding â€Å"not† to agree may have to be the option for the benefit of the business. The next trait relevant to organizations is â€Å"conscientiousness. † This personality can have a large range or small range of objectives that he or she focuses on. An experience that I can reference back to where I dealt with a co-worker that was on the lower side of the conscientiousness spectrum was when she and I were compiling a list together to fulfill tasks that needed to be completed for a showroom install we were working on. She had too many goals that needed to be obtained at one time, which meant that, with a deadline, some goals were not going to be adequately fulfilled. As a result, this made some of our presentations appear incomplete. The best resolution would have been to tailor the list, focusing only on key priorities, and worrying about the fillers later. I tend to believe that someone that only focuses on a few goals at one time not only shows that they are organized, but their organization allows for their co-workers to feel less stress and not under pressure, even with a deadline set. The third â€Å"big five† is â€Å"negative emotionality. † This trait I view as a â€Å"personal life interference† trait. It is defined as the moodiness and lack of confidence â€Å"trait. It is understandable that everyone, at some point in time, becomes stressed during work, yet, â€Å"why† he or she is stressed and â€Å"how† he or she deals with it, are the key factors. An individual that becomes stressed about a report that has been assigned to him or her with an unrealistic deadline is relative to the work environment. Being able to remain poise and reassuring one’s self that the deadline can be made are personas of an employee that has â€Å"less negative emotionality. On the contrary, if the employee begins to lash out at others and continuously believes that the report will not be completed on time, the employee is has â€Å"more negative emotionality. † Understanding this trait very well because of my position I have with a variety of deadlines, having â€Å"less negative emotionality† is the best for the individual and for the company. The fourth characteristic is â€Å"extraversion. † Classified as an individual’s ease of being in relationships, this is probably the most important of all the â€Å"big fives. My reasoning for this assumption is that in business, everything is about relationships. With no relationships, business does not exist. Businesses need relationships within the firm, employees amongst employees, and outside the firm, employees with customers, and the business with its vendors. While the level of t he â€Å"extraversion† trait, meaning how â€Å"comfortable† one becomes in relationship, should be taken into consideration, relationships must happen in order for a business to be successful. The last of the â€Å"big five† is â€Å"openness. â€Å"Openness† is defined as the ability to foster new concepts and to adapt as a result of this new information. It is very important to be more open in the work environment. For instance, with advancement in technology, it helps a company become more efficient and cut down on costs to increase profits. Individuals who are not willing or â€Å"open† to do so can hinder growth, which in essence, will slow the success of the company. The following aims to give a comparative analysis of domestic violence in women in the UK as against women in Ghana. Secondary reports from the police, Charities (NGOs), journals and newspaper issues were used in doing this analysis. Results showed that cases of domestic violence against women in the UK were widespread. There is a social services structure to deal with these issues. Children who are indirectly or directly affected by domestic violence can be identified in most cases and are offered any help or necessary treatment. In Ghana, there are many cultural barriers to first of all getting the message of domestic violence across and secondly being accepted as an infringement of human rights. There are no social structures in place to help these women. NGOs are the equivalent to social services in the UK, but cannot/are not as proactive. They rely on women coming forward and do not/cannot carry out investigations on suspicion of domestic violence. Children, who are directly or indirectly affected, tend to pass through unnoticed. I will test 3 variables: weight, surface area and surface texture. Each test will be repeated 5 times to get a fair range of results. Friction is the force of two objects rubbing together and slowing and/or stopping each other. The amount of friction produced depends on the appearance of its surface for example: The surface of the sandpaper has deep slopes and the surface of the paper has to move up and down those slopes to proceed, causing friction. My first test will be done to measure the affect of weight on the amount of friction between the block and the table top. The block ill be placed on the table and the Newton meter tied to it. Then the Newton meter will be pulled until the block starts to move and as soon as it does the amount of Newtons required to cause that movement will be recorded. This will be done 5 times then averaged. To make sure it is a fair test I will: use the same Newton meter and the same wooden block to avoid introducing other variables; I will also use the same section of table using the same side of the block every time. I will be vigilant of how I pull the Newton meter, the moving force should be parallel to the supporting surface because pulling it up will lessen friction and pulling it down will increase friction. I predict that as the weight on the block increases so therefore does the down force, increasing the amount of friction because it becomes more difficult for the ridges to pass over each and so a block with less/smoother ridges would find its passage a lot easier. When the experiment was carried out, as I predicted, when the weight on the block increased so therefore did the Newtons required to move it from a fixed position. To make sure it is a fair test I will: unless it breaks use the same Newton meter, I will use the same block and the same side of the block every time, I will use the same substance/type of substance for instance making sure the sandpaper comes from the same sheet. I will also keep the movement of the block parallel to the supporting surface. Although smoothness is hard to measure I predict that the smoother a substance is to the touch, the less friction will be produced, because the smoother a substance is to the touch the less sharp or outstanding the ridges are, therefore the less resistance they cause. I followed my method very strictly any variation caused by my hand is small to negligible, and would not greatly affect the results. I have come to the conclusion that for a substance to reach minimal resistance it can achieve this being light weight, smoothly textured and have minimal contacting surface area with the opposing surface. If a substance is required to have maximum resistance it would be the opposite. I feel the experiment was performed rather well but there is room for improvement, to have maybe got fairer more accurate results I could have maybe repeated the experiment once or twice on all of them, then I would have more data to analyse giving me a better chance at accuracy. In all the three experiments instead of using the human hand to pull the Newton meter use a machine which would be less prone to inconsistency and use a table top free of blemishes. In the second experiment the block could have been placed on previously constructed platforms each measured to have 4 sides the same and those sides to be the measurements used meaning the non need of paper and a lot more accurate readings.

Poe’s gothic tale â€Å"The Black Cat† was written trying to achieve an effect of shocking insanity. In this first person narrative the narrator tells of his decline from sanity to madness, all because of an obsession with two (or possibly one) black cats. These ebony creatures finally drive him to take the life his wife, whose death he unsuccessfully tries to conceal.   This short story easily achieved the effect that Poe was looking for through the use of description of setting, symbolism, plot development, diverse word choice, and detailed character development. In most cases, the setting is usually indelible to a story, but â€Å"The Black Cat† relies little on this element. This tale could have occurred anywhere and can be placed in any era. This makes the setting the weakest element of â€Å"The Black Cat.†   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Next, symbolism is always an integral part of any Poe story. The most obvious of symbolic references in this story is the cat’s name, Pluto. This is the Roman god of the underworld. Another immensely symbolic part of â€Å"The Black Cat† is the title itself, since onyx cats have long connoted bad luck and misfortune. This story has almost any plot element you can imagine a horror story containing. Who could have guessed, at the beginning of the story, that narrator had killed his wife? The course of events in â€Å"The Black Cat’s† plot is shockingly insane by itself! Moreover, the words in â€Å"The Black Cat† were precisely chosen to contribute to Poe’s effect of shocking insanity. As the narrator pens these he creates a splendidly morbid picture of the plot. Perfectly selected, sometimes rare, and often dark, his words create just the atmosphere that he desired in the story.
